Each year a week in February is designated for sexual and reproductive health awareness. This year it will take place from February 11-15 with the theme of SEXUAL HEALTH AT ALL AGES.
Sexuality and sexual health are vital to wellbeing throughout our lives. Everyone, no matter the age, is entitled to affirming health care and that includes sexual health.
This year’s campaign will address sexual health at different stages of life, from children and sex-positive parenting all the way to ageing and sexuality.
In Prairie Mountain Health (PMH)’s Public Health program, there are many resources to share with people about this topic. All Public Health Nurses within PMH have a Healthy Sexuality aspect to their practice. The Healthy Sexuality and Harm Reduction Program support clients by sharing information about healthy sexuality and reproductive health choices. A Public Health Nurse can provide education and support to prevent, test for, treat and/or facilitate testing and treatment for Sexually Transmitted and Blood Borne Infections (STBBI’s). A nurse can also assist clients to access sexual health clinics where available.
The Reproductive Health Program provides free hormonal contraception to eligible women. Condoms are provided at all Public Health Offices and are easily accessible.
