I’m Brian Schoonbaert, the new Chief Executive Officer for Prairie Mountain Health (PMH). Our former CEO, Penny Gilson, retired at the end of May. We sincerely thank Penny for her leadership and dedication over the past nine years. We wish her all the best in future endeavours.
I thought I would introduce or re-introduce myself to everyone in our health region. Since 1989, I have held health executive roles within the PMH area. From 2012-2018, I was the PMH VP of Finance (CFO), Capital Support Services and Chief Operating Officer of Brandon Regional Health Centre. I was also in VP of Finance and Information Services roles from 1994-2011 for Brandon General Hospital and the BRHA.
In 2018, I was seconded from PMH to work within the Transformation Management Office (TMO). As health care continues to evolve in Manitoba, I thought it would be important to have a ‘rural voice’ at the table. I am grateful for that experience, and I hope that I did make a difference.
On behalf of our health leadership team, I want to take a moment to sincerely acknowledge all who personally and professionally continue to persevere through the COVID pandemic. This unprecedented time has impacted every one of us. Over the past 15 months, our staff--our health care heroes –have, with strength, dedication and unwavering commitment, continued to provide care and compassion to the patients, residents and clients we serve. Truly, we can’t say thank you enough!
If I can take a quick trip down memory lane, it is exciting to see how far we have come as a health region. We have developed and adopted two Strategic Plans and two extensive Community Health Assessments. We have participated in two regional accreditation surveys to measure ourselves against national standards, embrace best practices and further develop continuous quality improvement processes. We thank our dedicated staff for their hard work and contributions towards the first part of our accreditation survey, which we just completed following a preliminary summary on May 21.
We look forward to undertaking the second part of the survey in the fall.
We have an incredible team of over 7,500 individuals who, like me, remain committed to providing quality health care services to the residents of PMH. I look forward to working together with all of our health partners and stakeholders in this ever-changing health care journey we are on.
