Health Innovation Award for Health System Improvement – PMH 5S and Inventory Management

Through this Lean initiative, the project team identified opportunities for efficiencies by assessing supply ordering patterns and variances in inventories throughout the region. Savings of $700,000 were achieved in the Prairie Mountain Health region’s acute and long term care facilities, while maintaining patient safety and standards of care.

"There were many staff involved in this work, each with complementary strengths that contributed to the project’s success. This type of project could benefit any health service delivery organization, and processes could be easily replicated with sufficient project management and leadership support." (nominator)
