The Dauphin Health Care Auxiliary completed its final act of business February 9, with two cheques presented to the Dauphin Hospital Foundation designated for use within both the hospital and personal care home. Auxiliary executive members signed off on two donations, of $23,156 each, to be used for future contributions to both facilities. The Auxiliary officially announced it was ceasing operation back on January 12, 2022 after 120 years of volunteer service and fundraising efforts.
Auxiliary President Sharon Derhousoff said it was a bittersweet day, happy that the remaining funds will be put to good use, but sad because it means the organization has officially wrapped up.
“The Dauphin Health Care Auxiliary would like to thank Dauphin and surrounding communities for their support throughout the years. It is because of the businesses and community members who gave us support through our fundraising efforts that we were able to accomplish what we did. To the members, thank you for all that you have done.”
Earlier, PMH CEO Brian Schoonbaert met with Auxiliary members to pass along the region’s gratitude for all the group has done not only recently, but throughout its existence.
“Our communities and our facilities have been very fortunate for the role Auxiliaries have played in ensuring some of our health system wants and needs are provided for. The Dauphin Health Care Auxiliary has been rooted in tradition and a long-standing commitment to serve, which has not gone unnoticed. We do appreciate the decision to dissolve was extremely difficult. We sincerely thank the membership for what they have meant to the health region as a true caring and giving partner knowing that the acts of kindness and contributions will remain unparalleled.”
