Following a special meeting on October 18, 2021, the Dauphin Health Care Auxiliary unanimously passed a motion to dissolve its operations after over 120 years of service to the community. Auxiliary President, Sharon Derhousoff, says the Auxiliary made the difficult but necessary decision after much reflection and consideration.
“It is certainly with mixed emotions that we announce the end of a tremendous chapter of history that involves the Dauphin Health Care Auxiliary. On the one hand, very emotional that the organization realized it could no longer adequately support the acts of charity and kindness it has been known for over generations. On the other hand, we celebrate a legacy of so many positive accomplishments and cherish those memories and we do so with tremendous pride and a smile”.
Derhousoff says difficulty in the ability to fundraise over the last few years; the lack of new membership and an aging membership, were key reasons behind the decision. Although known a few months ago, it has taken time to go through the appropriate steps needed to bring operations to a conclusion.
A snapshot of recent donations towards various pieces of equipment and programs and services at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre and Personal Care home totaled over 215,000.
The Auxiliary passed a motion at its last meeting that it would be dispersing its remaining funds, through the Dauphin Hospital Foundation, to purchases that will be split between the Hospital and Dauphin Personal Care Home. A presentation of those funds is planned sometime in February.
The Dauphin Hospital Aid, as it was originally known, was officially organized in 1899.
The Dauphin Health Care Auxiliary officially met for the final time October 18, 2021.
