Annual General Meeting 2021

Prairie Mountain Health held its 2020/2021 Annual General Meeting on October 13. The virtual meeting covered the health region’s operational year of April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021. It also provided brief updates on the current fiscal year and allowed an opportunity for participants to ask or send questions.

Prairie Mountain Health (PMH) Board Acting Chairman Lon Cullen chaired the meeting. Cullen indicated that PMH currently operates under the direction of an 11-member Board appointed by the Minister of Health and Seniors Care. He stated although Board members reside in various communities throughout the health region, they represent the entire region at the Board table.

Cullen recognized PMH staff, physicians and volunteers for being ‘health care heroes’.  He acknowledged their leadership, dedication and commitment during the most challenging year ever due to the first global pandemic in a century.  He also thanked community partners for supporting the region during the last year.

PMH CEO Brian Schoonbaert also passed along sincere thanks on behalf of the organization.

“We could not be more proud of our staff, physicians and volunteers.  In every situation our staff have risen to the occasion.  Filling shifts, working overtime, changing work schedules to accommodate, being reassigned, providing a helping hand without being asked or lending a sympathetic ear are just a few notable examples. We even had many former staff return from retirement, which shows that the hallmarks of what health-care workers are known for: care, compassion and sacrifice, remain steadfast,” Schoonbaert stated.

Schoonbaert added, ‘while many Manitobans were being told to stay home, our staff showed up to work making sure the health system stayed intact and that our health region residents received the care they required and deserved.’

PMH Regional Lead, Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer Dan McGregor presented information regarding the region’s audited financial statements. The health region finished with a small surplus at the end of the fiscal year.

The meeting also featured a “year in review” video mainly involving key actions taken regarding the COVID-19 pandemic as well as an emotional tribute to all staff and stakeholders for their contributions.
