Telehealth Sites Expanding

Four new sites within Prairie Mountain Health (PMH) have received provincial approval to join MBTelehealth. This includes new, community-funded sites in Erickson, Glenboro and Melita and an additional location within Ste. Rose Primary Health Care Centre.

The sites in Erickson and Glenboro are currently operational on the telehealth network, while the other sites will come on-line when installation and training phases are completed over the next few months. With these two additions now on-line, the number of PMH region telehealth sites grows to 26.

In Erickson and Glenboro, local committees raised money for the purchase of the equipment and five years of operational costs.

“PMH recognizes and acknowledges that the expansions in Erickson and Glenboro could not have been made possible at this time without extraordinary community contributions towards the initiative,” stated Penny Gilson, Chief Executive Officer of PMH.

“Access to MBTelehealth continues to mean less travel for patients and families within Prairie Mountain Health, more access to medical specialists and overall, better health care services,
closer to home.”

Telehealth is the use of information technology to link people to health care expertise at a distance. A high- speed, secure video link connects clients to health care providers at different
locations in Manitoba. Over 500 different clinician specialists provide services on the network coming from over 40 different specialty areas.
